My 48" grill arrived today. Within 10 minutes the fire was going.
One thing I do not understand is the design of the charcoal basket. I'm used to having the coals burning on an elevated grate so that ashes easily fall through and air easily moves up. This rig has a more or less solid bottom charcoal basket with 1" holes spaced on four or five inch centers. I suppose this keeps the fire from overheating, but I don't know for sure. And I don't have a guess about the why the grate material is mounted to for floor of the charcoal basket. Anyone know?
Of course, I am not challenging the design, but I would like to understand it.
Thanks,
Jimmy
I see nobody responded at least I don't see a response. I assume from your description you are talking about an offset. The plate with the holes spaced 4-5 inches is probably the heat management plate and not a charcoal basket.
