Looking forward to the delivery on my YS640 (competition) next week.
I generally grill and smoke in a 50%/50% mix. I'm switching from a Memphis Advantage grill. I ordered full grillgrates, with the hope of keeping them installed across the whole grill to avoid swapping them in and out.
This thread made it sound like that plan is ok:

What do the experts say?
I don't think you need the full smoker with grill grates, as they are really only useful over the firebox - the opposite end of the pit will not see heats that will get warm enough to be useful IMO.....
They sell the grill grates to cover the area over the firebox,, that's how I bought them, I am out of the loop knowing if they have been selling them for the entire grill....
