Grease dripping down front on 640

HI all, I'm a new owner of a used 2013 model YS640 on a comp cart, and I have a question regarding dripping down the front. If I'm cooking (anything really) I'll get runs of grease dripping down the front of the smoker from under the lid. The previous owner ran a bead of RTV around the lid to help combat this, but I think it only minimized it (and now the RTV is pulling off from the lid. The issue is that the grease is getting in between the smoker and cart and causing rust. I bought a can of the touch up paint, but before I go through the trouble of repainting, I'd like to make sure to stop the drips.

If I put a nomex gasket along the bottom lip, would that stop the drips, or is there a better alternative?

Thanks for any help!

Chad

I'm having the same issue with my new yoder ys640. It really detracts from the great looks of the smoker. If anyone figers out a solution to this issue please let me know.

Hi All,
My 2014 model has a couple of areas that did this as well...There is a grease deflector welded to the inside front of the lid that directs the grease splatter down into the cooking chamber. The problem is that the deflector is welded in 4 spots and not a continuous bead. The grease seeps through some of these areas and ends up down the front. I scraped mine clean, decreased with some googone and applied high temp silicone like the rest of the box. so far so good. I love my ys640 but wish some areas had a little more engineering applied before manufacturing.

Aha, mine also gets drips, but never that bad. I don't clean the smoker like many do, I more look at it as a fancy lawnmower. I don't sleep with mine. One friend spends more time cleaning his Weber than he cooks on it.

That said, I'll be doing my big annual clean in a month and I'll look at that, thanks!

Seal side...see some of the silicone coming out where grease was leaking.

Just wanted to give an update from a recent buyer. My 640 that was built 10/11/2016 has a layer of sealant similar to the mod that meat_candy did. Someone is listening.
