Question on pizza on a 640 with a pizza steel

Hi:
I tried pizza on my 640 and they turned out good but took a little long. Let me run my setup by you and see if anyone has any suggestions.
I run a 640 with the access door off to create a high flame at one end like a pizza oven.
I set my baking steel on the grates next to the flame.
I place my grillgrates (solid side down) on the rack above.
I crank the heat high.
My questions are.
Are the grillgrate on the shelf above too high? Should I configure something lower?
Should I put the steel above and get a pizza stone for the bottom?
Does anyone have a configuration that works really well?
Thanks
Jim
