Looking for some YS640 advice

New guy here. Just finished saving for a YS640, about to place the order, but have a few questions I'm hoping some of you have some experience with.

I plan to monitor my cooks with an ET-733 thermometer, so I will be getting a probe port. Is there any benefit to getting a second probe port? Is it worth it to run multiple thermometers, say if I have multiple types of meat cooking at the same time?

Tel-Tru Door Thermometer. I plan to get one if for no other reason than I like the look. Again, any benefit to getting two installed? Or is that a super waste of money given that I'll be using a ET-733 as mentioned above?

Grill Grates and the Griddle? I'm hoping to sell my gas grill after getting my Yoder. Are the Grill Grates and Griddle a worth-while investment to make the Yoder an all in one outdoor cooking machine? Does anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks for your time!

I'm not sure if you can run more than one probe through the probe port. However the ET-733 does have two probes. Handy for monitoring 2 meats. Or a meat and cooking chamber temp from a distance.

You should be able to get 2 probes through the probe port and still turn the cap and seal the opening. If you need to, you can remove the insert and then should be able to get 4 probes through the port, but will not be able to seal it up, as the insert is no longer installed.

The door thermometers will give you the temperature of the outer portions of the cooking chamber where they are mounted. You can use their readings to figure out an offset to the actual grate temperatures, but because of their placement, they will never give you the exact temperature at the grate levels.

The Grill Grates are a must if you are going to use your cooker to grill. You will never be disappointed with the Grill Grates, and they unlock the full potential of the cooker.

I have a 733. I don't like it. To me it is very hard to program. I have to get the manual out every time I use it and still have trouble. I know it's more money but do yourself a favor and get a Tappecue. http://www.atbbq.com/store/show/tappecue-wireless

$199?????? Holy cow.

Look at the new Maverick 735. I have the 732, no need to program. Plug the probes in, start cooking. No real need to program it for temps. I haven't for almost 2 years now. It just works. I have the 732.

It's accurate, the batteries last a long time, it has a remote. Turn on the remote, then turn on the other part. Temps pop up. One for meat, one for the smoker. I will say the probes are fragile, do NOT immerse in water. Under heavy use they do wear out, so get one each of the probes in time.

I have a YS640 with one probe port installed. That's the way my dealer (Diablo Grills) orders them from the factory. I was planning on ordering mine with two probe ports since I have a Maverick 732 and 733 and could use them for monitoring two things cooking at once. What made up my mind was; the dealer had the single probe port YS640 in stock. Otherwise a 4-6 week wait. Yoder Herb is correct. You can easily slide two Maverick probes through the port after removing the little insert.
I was going to order the twin thermometers for their coolness factor but changed my mind after reading how inaccurate these things are.
GrillGrates. These are a must have. These things are so versatile. They saved my old gasser from the last neighborhood trash pickup day. I just lay the Yoder GrillGrates on top of the existing grate on the gasser, and now I have a new machine!

The grates work wonderful in the YS640 also. Perfectly cooked seared steaks.
