I suspect I will be ordering one of these. Being able to do more without removing the whole heat diffuser plate is a BIG win! I've often found myself going to the gas grill for direct grilling simply because I don't want to remove/stow my YS640 diffuser plate.

Just wondering with the access door being lower than the whole diffuser will that alter any cooking temps or make hot spot

Good question. I bet there is someone lurking around here that could offer more details....

I went ahead and ordered one earlier today. I like the idea of being able switch over to grillgrates and direct grill without removing the whole diffuser.

No, this was not an issue during our testing.

I grilled some tenderloin filets with the new heat diffuser installed last night. I think I'm really going to like this thing.

I took some pictures of my shiny (not for long) new diffuser plate with door.

Thanks for adding the pics... I've been meaning to take some photos of mine.

I just got mine and it is a big difference then the original one. Looking forward to using it. Was wondering if you guys are using foil on this or not.

I haven't used foil yet - I don't think I will. Strange because I always used it on the other one.

I'm not using foil on mine. Two minutes tops with a paint scraper is much easier than fighting to tightly wrap a big, heavy piece of steel with aluminum foil. Not to mention cheaper.

I have to say I love the new heat plate. It is very heavy and the access door makes clean up an easy. I do run one sheet of foil down the middle just easy to pull that and throw it away.

what are the dimensions of the opening in the 2 piece heat diffuser?
