Hello guys, my name is Thomas and I’m from the Netherlands. I have a problem with the ys640. With a cook I get lots of soot. In the picture is a chicken I cooked at 380 F for 1 hour and it turned out covered with soot. The other pictures are the burn grate. Can you please help me solve this problem?
Thanks guys
One of the Yoder guys needs to weigh in but I don't see any sealant around the fire box. Not sure if that would cause your problem but it is a problem.
Your smoker documentation should have pictures of how it should look and how to fix it.
Theres black sealant around the firebox. Above the firebox is the orange sealant. It is cracker after two cookes.
What type of pellets are you using?
You have pics of the burn box without it emptied out?
Apple pellets from the brand Lumberjack. Is the burn grate situated in the right way? I will remove the current sealent and replace it tomorrow. Theres a white spot from the heat in one of the photos. I don’t think thats normal.
The white ash is an indication that the silicone seal has been compromised and needs to be removed and replaced.
The sealant should not come above the removable burn grate.
From the looks of the chicken, you did not wait until the smoker was finished burning off the cooking grease and residue from previous cooks. You should always wait a minimum of 30 minutes, or until the thick smoke from the burning grease and old cooking residue subsides, before putting anything in the cooker.
Okay, first thing to do is to replace the sealant.
When thats done I will post another picture of the burn grate. Can you confirm it if its properly installed? I put the Chicken in the smoker after 35 minutes. The smoker was cleaned before I started. I keep you guys posted! Thx
Allright, still got the problem. Please help me..
Yoder clean, sett on 370 Fahrenheit with the diffuser plate. After 45 minutes I loaded the yoder with veggies and atomic turds. After 15 minutes I checked them, the atomic turds where all covered in soot.
