Smoke leaking from the wingnut fastened chimney

Hello!
I'm a stick burning newbie, so forgive me if this should be common knowledge. I know these things aren't designed to be airtight, but there seems to be a lot of smoke coming out of the wing nut fatstened chimney stack rather than the end of it. Is this normal? Wouldn't this mess with the air flow? I'll attach a photo.
