Unidentified part...??

Unidentified part...??

My Cheyenn smoker has a flat half circle piece of steel attached to a metal rod (bar). I am not sure what that is, can someone tell me? I am guessing some sort of damper (??) but not sure. I would love to know what it is and what it does. Thank you, Paul

It is your ash rake for cleaning out the bottom of the firebox.
